Nested Churn Dash, Binding and Bee Blocks, Oh My!

WIP Wednesday at Freshly Pieced
Sew Fresh Quilts

Hello everyone! The last couple days have been very productive around here. I have finally made progress on my Nested Churn Dash which I'm super excited about! The churn dash is my favorite quilt block so when I saw this pattern I knew I had to make a quilt for our bed with it. I am making a king size quilt so I will have 16 blocks plus sashing and borders. I have all 16 of my inner churn dashes done and they are so cute! They measure only 4.5" square. Again, I am using the Hampton Hues collection from Connecting Threads for this quilt.
I also got the binding for my son's quilt made, attached to the front and I'm about 1/3 done hand stitching it to the back. He chose this fabric for the binding and I think it was a great decision. It was between this one and the darker blue and I love the contrast this one has with the light blue of the back. And it worked out because the top and bottom of the front are the dark blue fabric so this contrasts there too! My little man is super excited to have his quilt done. So am I but I have no idea how I'm going to take pictures of this monster! My goal is to have it finished by Friday before we leave for a family wedding.
On the bee block front, I received my first block in the mail on Monday from Georgi in Florida. It's on the right and I love it! The one on the left is my example block. I'm so excited to see what my other hive mates have come up with. I've seen a couple online but having them in person is so much better!
I have a block to make this month for my intermediate hive. Naomi chose the Atlantic Seas foundation paper pieced block in whites and grays which will be very striking when she gets it all together. I have my fabric pulled and need to get going on it because I think it will take a bit longer with all those pieces. I haven't done a ton of foundation paper piecing but I always love how it turns out.

Well, that's it for now. Have a sew crafty day!

Jenn

  5. Love your churn dash blocks! I've been on the lookout for a good pattern to use with large print fabrics. Churn dash might be just the ticket, thanks for the idea! I'm looking forward to seeing all your x and + blocks together.
