Mug Rugs - a Semi-Finish and a Sale!

Hello everyone! Unfortunately I don't have a lot to report today. My son has been sick with a cold the last 2 weeks and this week his asthma flared up really bad. We got some new meds for him yesterday but he's been home from school for 3 days so I haven't had a lot of sewing time. I did get my secret quilt top done but I can't show you a picture of that yet.

Last night, after getting Max in bed, I managed to make the tops of 4 mug rugs for my craft fair. I used part of a Miss Kate charm pack by Bonnie & Camille for Moda Fabrics that I recently purchased on sale from Shabby Fabrics. And I'm going to be using these Toscana fat eighths (Deborah Edwards for Northcott Studio), also from Shabby Fabrics, as the backs. I love these bright colors!

I'm linking up today to Confessions of a Fabric Addict and crazy mom quilts' finish it up Friday.

Christmas Around the World

Hello! I hope you all had a sew crafty weekend and are enjoying your first days of fall! It kind of feels like summer around here these last couple days except the cool temps in the mornings. I was busy, busy all weekend long and finished all of my microwave bowl cozies. I just love how they look all stacked up! :)

I am so excited that I received my last bee block in the mail this week. Now I need to make 2 more blocks to get my 4x4 layout and figure out my fabric choices for borders, backing and binding. I was originally going to add sashing between the blocks but I have decided, thanks to some input from other quilters, to skip it. I think it would take away from the scrapiness and the pattern itself. Without the sashing, this is going to look cooler than I even imagined! I'm calling this quilt "Christmas Around the World" because some of these blocks came from overseas. I love that! :)

I have made great progress on my "secret" quilt. There are 15 rows and I have pieced and pressed all of them. Now I just need to sew them together and get the backing ready to go. I'm going to quilt this with a spiral which I've never done before but I think it will look really cool. I can't wait to show you pictures! To get your imagination going, the quilt is called "Technicolor Dreams." Hmmm...

More Craft Fair Prep

Hello! I have a pretty quick post today and then it's back to sewing. I've been a cutting fool lately, cutting lots of fabric for my 12" microwave bowl cozies and key fobs. I'm setting the key fob fabric aside right now because those are super quick to make, and focusing on the more time consuming products. I have all 21 of my 9" bowl cozies done and I just finished the first 12" cozy. It is a perfect fit for bowls 8-10" in diameter. The bowl I have is about 9 3/8".

I've got 20 more cozies pinned and ready to go so I better get to work! I plan to also work some more on my secret quilt project this weekend. Here's one more sneak peak but that's all you get until this is in the hands of the recipient! ;)

Odds and Ends

Hello! I was a busy little beaver over the weekend working on my microwave bowl cozies. I finished 20 of the 9" size and have 1 more to go. I've also got the batting cut for the 12" size and started cutting the fabric yesterday. I'll be using small pieces from these fat quarters for my key fobs as well, so I'm cutting those at the same time. I have so much to do that I have to figure out some time-saving techniques along the way!

I took a break Monday and Tuesday to finish up some other obligations for this month. I have my September $5 quilt meeting this coming Saturday so I whipped up the August blocks on Monday. The basic block is on the left, the intermediate on the right.

And yesterday, I sewed my 2 Threadbias bee blocks. They were both so much fun! One is a disappearing 4-patch which I had never done before and I was a bit nervous about the cutting. But it turned out great!

The other is a block called On the plus side designed by Camille Roskelley for the Aurifil 2014 Designer block of the month series. It is so cute! In sewing these 4 blocks, I finally mastered my pinning technique to get my points to match! They're almost all perfect! Woo hoo!

This morning, I visited a small local quilt guild meeting. I was a member of a much larger guild for about a year but their meetings were in the evenings which is hard for me because my husband has a long commute for work. I wasn't able to attend several of the meetings so I felt like I wasn't able to get involved like I wanted. Now that Max is in school all day, my mornings are open and this guild meets Wednesday mornings which is perfect! And it's much smaller which I think is a better fit for me. I'm excited to get to know this group of ladies more and learn from their years of experience. ;)

Craft Fair Prep

Hello and Happy Friday! Boy, fall sure has come to Michigan, right on the heels of a late summer. We've had chilly temps this week and quite a bit of rain. But fall is my favorite season so bring it on! I've enjoyed a couple pumpkin spice lattes from my favorite coffee shop, one as I'm typing this. ;) And I've begun work on my craft fair products. I got notice on Monday that I was approved to participate so I have a lot of work to do! Remember all these goodies I got a few weeks ago?
I dug into the 10" squares and the Wrap-N-Zap yesterday and have 5 completed 9" microwave bowl cozies, with 16 more in the works. I will also be making 12" cozies, hot pads, oven mitts, mug rugs, applique tea towels, key fobs and quilted pillow covers. Whew! Whatever doesn't sell at the craft fair will be stocking my Etsy shop. Finally!

This size cozy can accommodate a bowl up to 7" in diameter. This bowl is about 6 3/8". The fabric is from the Isle of Enchantment collection at Connecting Threads.

I'm linking up today to finish it up Friday at Crazy Mom Quilts and Confessions of a Fabric Addict.

A Wednesday Finish and New Projects!

Hello everyone! I hope you've all had a smooth transition back into school schedules. I know mornings have been a little rough around here but my son is absolutely loving being in school all day! And I'm loving having all this sewing time. :)

Breakfast At Tiffany's is done! Woo hoo! I did a scrappy binding that turned out really cute and I really like the coordinating pillow sham. I am going to deliver it today so my neighbor can have it on her daughter's bed when she gets home from school. She has no idea it's done! I love that! :)

This picture makes it look like the quilt is already washed but it's not! I guess this is just a good idea of what it will look like once it is. ;)

Now, it's on to my semi-secret project. Here's a little peak at the fabric. I'm really excited to see this one come together. :)
I've also been asked to make a purse for a friend of mine. She had seen a picture of Amanda Jean's (crazy mom quilts) Scrap Happy Purse on my Facebook page after I linked up a Friday finish and thought I had made the purse. I told her I could since Amanda has a pattern for it. You can find that pattern here and here. My style is a bit different from my friend's so I don't have any scraps that will work. So we picked the Printemps collection for Moda at Keepsake Quilting and I'm excited to see how this turns out. :)

Breakfast at Tiffany's Revisited

Hello! I hope you've all been well! My son started Young 5s yesterday and today was his first full day. He was so excited to take his lunch to school! I'm excited to have all this extra time for quilting/sewing! I have so many WIPs that I have been neglecting for the last month or so and it feels so good to get back into the swing of things. I've started with the coordinating pillow sham for Breakfast at Tiffany's. I'm going with a patchwork front and the turquoise damask for the back.

My goal is to get this finished as well as get the quilt bound yet this week. I know my neighbor's daughter is anxious to have her quilt!
